Dear Friends and Customers,

April seems like the right moment to go to Paris — at least in spirit. This month’s Southern Vapors collection is titled “April in Paris,” which is considerably easier (and more economical) than booking a flight and remembering to renew your passport in time.

Floral Enamel Perfume Bottle with Gilded Stopper
Soft white ground, scattered blossoms, and a stopper that clearly enjoys attention. Sweet — but not shy.

Grand Tour Blue Opaline Scent Bottle with Ormolu Mounts
Luminous blue glass wrapped in intricate gilt metalwork. Decorative, certainly. Quite the souvenir for the 19th century traveler.

Fluted Amethyst Piston Pump Bottle
Structured facets, deep tone, and a 1905 Fench invention: the piston pump to diffuse perfume spray. Proof that elegance can be practical.

Lalique Dahlia Perfume Bottle
Satin glass shaped into a disciplined bloom. Quiet design, confident result. Nobody does it like Lalique.

Four interpretations of French taste — measured, expressive, and entirely comfortable being noticed.

I hope you enjoy the April collection’s focus on beuaty, innovation, sophistication and outstanding craftsmanship.

CURATOR’S NOTE:

Where March was about renewal and softness, April takes a slightly sharper line. French perfume bottles, particularly those of the 19th and early 20th centuries, have a way of combining restraint with a certain confidence in their own good taste. They are decorative, certainly — but never merely decorative. Proportion, balance, and finish matter. They were designed to be noticed, though never to show off.

Several pieces in this collection reflect that sensibility. Architectural glass forms, carefully worked mounts, and surfaces that respond beautifully to light all make an appearance. These were once practical objects used in the small daily rituals of dressing and presentation. With time, they have become something else as well: sculptural reminders that even ordinary routines were once carried out with intention.

As always, Southern Vapors continues to focus on authenticity, design integrity, and the particular emotional pull that certain objects exert. These bottles are meant to live comfortably in today’s interiors — on a dressing table, a desk, or wherever a touch of history feels welcome.

Signs of age are present and unapologetic. They are part of the story.

Reminder: Monthly Collections

Southern Vapors presents a tightly curated selection of antique perfume bottles each month, chosen for design, craftsmanship, age, rarity, and history.

Each collection is available for viewing during its featured month only. When the month closes, any remaining bottles are returned to the Southern Vapors vault until they are a natural fit for a future collection.

A Standing Thank-You

As a small gesture of appreciation, customers ordering over $150 are invited to select an additional bottle at no cost from the “Buy A Bottle Get a Bottle” collection.

Beyond Perfume Bottles

Alongside antique perfume bottles, I’ve begun offering a small selection of complementary objects — pieces chosen for craftsmanship, charm, and visual pleasure.

Currently available:

  • A rotating selection of vintage evening bags, focusing initially on French micro beaded examples from the 1950s

These items are not part of monthly viewing collections and may appear, or quietly disappear, over time.

Thank you for being here, and for taking the time to read.

Warmly,

Lynn Garson
